Question # 70

'Z' is simply a black thread worn on the arm to protect the wearer from any evil. It is also an old narrative device used in Punjabi folk music. Though literally it means 'female firefly', in Punjabi folk music the poet/writer uses Z as an innocent observer that makes humorous, sarcastic, sad but always touching observations. The narratives rely on Z landing up unexpectedly in diverse places and learning something new. Z makes her comments in three or four well wrought verses which may or may not rhyme.

Z?
